Loafed

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 October 2026

Loafed scores how well a cat sits in a loaf. Doing that takes a little information, so this page explains what we collect, what we do with it, and what you can ask us to do about it. Plain English, no fine print games.

01

Information We Collect

We collect the minimum needed to run Loafed. Depending on how you use it, that can include:

  • Cat photos. The photos you choose to take or upload for judging.
  • Results. The scores and commentary generated from those photos across our four criteria (Tuck Level, Loaf Shape, Loaf Posture and Tail Tuck).
  • An anonymous user ID. The app signs you in anonymously so it can authenticate requests and enforce judging limits. No email or password account is required.
  • Feedback you choose to send. If you submit feedback on an assessment, we receive the category, your note, the assessment information, your app version and your anonymous user ID, plus a photo only if you explicitly choose to include one.
  • Waitlist email. If you join the waitlist on this website, we store the email address you give us.
  • Technical information. Basic device, browser and usage details needed to operate, secure and improve Loafed.

If a feature that needs more information isn’t built yet, we don’t collect for it.

02

How We Use Information

We use information to do the job you’d expect of a loaf-scoring app:

  • Provide the Loafed scoring experience.
  • Process and analyse the cat photos you submit for judging.
  • Save or display your results where applicable.
  • Enforce judging limits so the service stays fair and affordable to run.
  • Operate, maintain and improve Loafed.
  • Prevent abuse, misuse and security issues.
  • Send updates to people who have specifically asked for them.

We don’t use your information to build advertising profiles about you, and we don’t send your details to third parties for their own marketing.

03

Cat Photos

Your cat, your photos. Uploading a photo to Loafed does not transfer ownership of that photo to us, and you keep the rights you already have in it.

When you submit a photo for judging, a prepared, resized version is sent through our backend to OpenAI, which analyses it and generates the assessment information and commentary that become your Loaf Score. Ordinary judging does not save the photo or the full provider response in Loafed’s backend database.

That said, “not saved by us” is not the same as “never retained by anyone”. Our providers may retain data under their own policies and our account settings with them. OpenAI’s handling of API data is described in its privacy policy and data usage documentation.

Loafed does not use the photos you submit to train AI or machine-learning models. OpenAI states that it does not train on API data by default; see its documentation linked above for the current position. “Not used for training” does not mean “never retained”, so we encourage you to read those policies if retention matters to you.

The one exception to ordinary judging is optional feedback: if you explicitly choose to include a photo when sending feedback, that resized photo is stored so we can review the assessment. See section 06.

04

My Bakes and Local Storage

Bakes you save in the app, including their photos and results, are stored locally on your device. Loafed does not sync your saved bakes to a cloud history, and there is no account recovery for them.

  • Removing a saved bake removes its in-app saved copy. It does not delete the original photo from your photo library.
  • Uninstalling the app removes the local My Bakes data with it.

05

Anonymous Sign-In and Judging Limits

Loafed does not ask you to create an email and password account. Instead, the app creates an anonymous user ID and authentication session, kept on your device, which is used to authenticate your requests and enforce judging limits.

“Anonymous” means we don’t ask who you are; it does not mean no identifiers or technical records exist. The anonymous ID and related records are still information we hold and protect. If you reinstall the app, a new anonymous identity may be created, and your previous judging quota and any link to earlier records may not carry over.

06

Optional Feedback

If something about a score seems off, you can send us feedback on an assessment. Feedback includes a category, your note, the assessment information, your app version and your anonymous user ID.

A resized photo is included only if you explicitly select the option to include it for review. Feedback and any included photo are stored in our backend with restricted access so our team can look into the result. They are not a public gallery, and they are handled differently from ordinary judging uploads, which are not stored.

07

Service Providers

Loafed relies on a small number of trusted providers to run:

These providers handle information on our behalf to deliver what we asked for. Their own policies and our account settings with them govern how long they retain data.

08

International Processing

Loafed is built in Australia, but the information you give us may be processed in other countries through our providers. For example, photos submitted for judging are processed by OpenAI, which operates internationally. By using Loafed, you understand that your information may be handled outside your own country, where different privacy laws may apply.

09

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep information only for as long as we reasonably need it: to provide and operate Loafed, to keep the service secure, to resolve disputes, and to meet legal obligations that apply to us.

  • Saved bakes live on your device and can be removed in the app at any time.
  • Waitlist emails stay with us until you ask us to remove them.
  • Feedback and any included photos are kept while they are useful for reviewing assessments, then removed when no longer needed.

If you ask us to delete backend records such as feedback, we may need enough information to locate them. Because the app uses anonymous sign-in, an email address alone may not identify your records, so we may ask for details that help us find them and confirm the request is genuine.

Deletion timing can also be affected by our providers’ retention policies, backup cycles and any legal obligations to keep records. Where something is held by a provider under its own policies, its deletion follows those policies.

10

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information, things like access controls, secure connections, and keeping access limited to the people and systems that need it. Stored feedback is access-restricted and not publicly visible.

That said, no service carried over the internet can promise absolute security. We work to keep your information safe, and we ask you to do your part by keeping your device to yourself.

11

Children’s Privacy

Loafed is not aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly seek to collect personal information from children where parental or guardian consent would legally be required.

If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll investigate and delete it where appropriate.

12

Your Choices and Rights

You’re in control of your own information. You can:

  • Manage local data yourself. Remove saved bakes in the app, or uninstall the app to clear its local data.
  • Stop the emails. Ask us to remove your waitlist address at any time.
  • Ask what we hold. Request a copy of the personal information we have about you. Because sign-in is anonymous, we may need extra details to locate your records.
  • Fix it or delete it. Ask us to correct inaccurate information, or to delete it altogether, subject to provider retention, backups and legal obligations.
  • Say no. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent stops future optional processing; it doesn’t undo processing that has already happened.

Where privacy laws in your region give you extra rights (such as objecting to certain processing or asking for your data in a portable form), we’ll handle requests as those laws require. We may need to confirm it’s really you before we act, and we’ll always explain what we’re doing.

13

Changes to This Policy

If Loafed changes and this policy needs to change with it, we’ll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we’ll let people know more directly: in the app, or by email where we already have your address.
